How do I set up Remote Access?

Remote Access allows you to securely connect your home computer to the College network. Setting the connection up is relatively simple. Use the guide provided to configure your computer for Remote Access.

Please note that these instructions are for Windows XP - the steps are broadly similar for Vista and Windows 7.

*** IMPORTANT UPDATE NOVEMBER 2011 ***

We have recently moved to a new internet connection. This means that the current settings will no longer allow you to connect using Remote Access.

You will need to delete your current VPN connection and create a new one.

Deleting your existing VPN connection

For Windows XP :-

1) Open Control Panel
2) Open Network Connections.
3) Right click on your existing Northallerton College VPN Connection and choose Delete. Answer Yes when asked if you are sure.

For Windows Vista / Windows 7

1) Open Control Panel
2) Open Network and Sharing Center
3) On the left hand side click Change adapter settings
4) Right click on your existing Northallerton College VPN Connection and choose Delete. Answer Yes when asked if you are sure.

Creating the new VPN connection

You can either set the VPN connection up manually or using our software. If you want to set the VPN up manually, please download the document called "Setting up a vpn connection from home to college Nov 2011.pdf" below.

If you want to set up the VPN connection using our software, please download the correct file below.

Save the file on your computer. Right click and extract all the files. Browse the files you have just extracted and open setup.exe - this will install the VPN connection on your computer.
